i was lucky enough to meet ratna and kamesh through awesome past clients (hi uyen and jorge!).  ratna and kamesh were looking for a photographer for their traditional south-indian wedding in tampa.  i was game, but was super nervous about photographing their two hour ceremony that would be completely done in sanskrit…  i had never photographed an indian wedding- let alone a ceremony where i would not know or understand what was happening.  ”nervous” was an understatement!  luckily ratna and kamesh were super sweet and took time to describe some key moments of the ceremony and even set me up with a family member so they could keep me in the loop about what was happening.  i was *very* thankful for that!  ;)

i absolutely loved shooting this wedding with so many different traditions and customs than what i am used to photographing.  it was just beautiful!  see for yourself…

st. petersburg intro to photography class

i’m so excited that i will be hosting Click Workshops as they come to St. Petersburg on Saturday, May 12th!!!

q. what the heck are Click Workshops and why do i need to know about them?

a. Click Workshops teach you how to take your DSLR off auto mode and into FULL MANUAL by the end of the 4 and a half hour class!!

the intro to photography workshop will teach you the basics of your camera and how to achieve proper exposure through ISO, aperture and shutter speed.  don’t know what all of that means?  no worries, this class is for BEGINNERS, which means they will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know.

they’ll also talk about posing secrets and tips, along with ideas to get natural expressions from children.  THEN, you’ll get to put all of your new knowledge to work and shoot real models.

check out this great video that will give you even more perspective about the class:

they are ALMOST ready starr and beau!  just a sneak to tide you over.  :)  aaaDSC_6578-1w

lonnie and jaymi are so *absolutely* sweet together.  if you saw their adorable engagement session from a few months back, you would have a hard time arguing that.  jaymi has a beautiful smile that lights up a room, or a barn in this case.  ;)  they were surrounded by family and close friends at the lovely cross creek ranch in dover for their wedding day.  what an amazing place to have a wedding, and really fun to photograph, to boot!  both lonnie and jaymi work for hillsborough county schools, which explains all of the adorable school-themed details.  jaymi and the staff at the cross creek ranch did an fantastic job pulling everything together…  see for yourself!  :)

a poignant moment

October 20, 2011
    poign·ant

adjective /ˈpoinyənt/

adj.
1.a. Profoundly moving; touching: a poignant memory.

the following photo has an entirely different meaning today than it did the day i snapped it.  the shadowed figure in the foreground is the groom, lonnie’s father.  it saddens me to say that he passed away just short of one week after lonnie and jaymi said their, “I do’s”.  jaymi sent me an email asking if i could go through and send her the images he was in, and this one really stood out to me.  today, when i see this, all i can think of is that he is .exactly. where he was meant to be in this moment: standing back quietly, enjoying the sites and sounds of his son’s wedding.  jaymi and lonnie, i am so sorry for your loss.  May Mr. Choate rest in peace.cross creek ranch reception
